This Privacy Policy describes how Charter Buddy ("we," "us," or "our"), operated by Point Overlook Ventures LLC, collects, uses, and discloses your information when you use our website and services (the "Platform").

By using Charter Buddy, you trust us with your information. We take that trust seriously. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it to connect Anglers with Captains.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide to us directly:

  • Account Data: When you register, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and password. This data is securely stored using our authentication providers.

  • Captain Profiles: If you list a boat, we collect your business name, harbor location, boat specifications, photos, and pricing details.

  • Communications: We store the messages you send to other users through the Platform to facilitate bookings and for safety monitoring.

  • Subscription Payment Data (Captains Only): If you are a Captain paying for a subscription, our third-party payment processor (Stripe) collects your payment method details. Charter Buddy does not store your full credit card number.

Information collected automatically:

  • Usage Data: We collect data about how you interact with the Platform, such as pages visited, time spent, and searches performed.

  • Location Data: With your permission, we may collect your precise or approximate location to help you find fishing charters near you.

  • Device Data: We collect information about the device you use to access the Platform, including IP address, browser type, and operating system.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to operate and improve the Platform, specifically to:

  • Connect Users: We use your contact information to send booking requests and confirmations between Anglers and Captains.

  • Process Subscriptions: We use payment data to bill Captains for their monthly or annual software fees.

  • Communication: We send you transaction updates (e.g., 'Booking Accepted'), security alerts, and administrative messages via email or push notifications.

  • Safety & Security: We monitor platform activity to detect fraud, spam, abuse, and security incidents.

  • Improvement: We analyze usage trends to improve the user experience and fix bugs.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or data brokers. We share your information only in the following ways:

  • Between Users: When an Angler requests a trip, we share their name and phone number with the Captain so the Captain can review the request and contact the Angler. Once a booking is confirmed, both parties receive full contact details to coordinate the trip.

  • Service Providers: We share data with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the Platform. These include Amazon Web Services (AWS) for hosting and infrastructure, Supabase for database and authentication management, and Stripe for payment processing. These vendors are contractually obligated to protect your data.

  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or valid legal process, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of Charter Buddy, our users, or the public.

  • Business Transfers: If Point Overlook Ventures LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Financial Data and Trip Payments

Important distinction regarding payments:

  • Captain Subscriptions: We use a secure third-party processor (Stripe) for Captain subscription fees. We do not store raw credit card information on our servers.

  • Trip Payments: Charter Buddy does not process payments for fishing trips. All deposits, balances, and tips are paid directly from the Angler to the Captain (e.g., via Cash, Venmo, or Card Reader). Consequently, we do not collect, see, or store any financial data related to specific charter trips.

6. Data Retention and Account Deletion

Retention. We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services, comply with legal obligations, or resolve disputes.

Deletion. You may request the deletion of your account and personal data at any time by contacting us at contact@mycharterbuddy.com. Please note that we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention).

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and analyze platform traffic. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling them may affect the functionality of the Platform.

8. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it.

9. Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. However, no internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data stored on third-party servers (AWS, Supabase).

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice on the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
